Media blasting is the process of removing a variety of abrasives (media) at a high rate to remove coatings such as paint, rust, sealers, grime, etc. leaving the surface prepared for the new coating. Dustless Blasting® is the process where mixing the media with water, it eliminates the large dust plume and mitigating the amount of dust and heat that results from typical sand blasting.

Dustless Blasting suppresses the plume of dust, allowing you to work almost anywhere with minimal containment.  Media that goes into the machine must come out, and it doesn't disappear into thin air. But compared to sandblasting, the process is essentially dustless because there are so few airborne particles.

There are many different types of media we use in our applications. The most common is crushed glass that comes in a variety of different grits and sizes depending on what is to be removed. Although crushed glass is the most common media that we use, there are a variety of others such as coal slag, garnet, nickel, soda, and even walnut shell/corn cob. The media that we use depends on the surface that is being blasted and the situation that we are presented with.

MaxxStrip is a mineral known as Kieserite and classified as a soft abrasive with a Mohs     hardness similar to baking soda and a PH of 7.0. It’s also water-soluble and extremely           eco-friendly and landscape-friendly.

Often customers associate soda blasting with media blasting. This was the standard before new methods and technology came into the industry. Soda blasting uses an abrasive called sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) and blasts the particles against the surface to clean it. The Downside of soda blasting is that if the new coating will not stick to the surface if it is not properly neutralized. Soda is not environmentally friendly and will harm plants and grass if not disposed of properly. True soda blasting is an option depending on the right situation. Your blasting tech will discuss with you the best practices based on your specific scenario.

The Dustless Blasting® reduces the factors that can cause warping. Warping occurs when the metal heats up due to friction from dry abrasive. When water is introduced, the temperature of the metal usually comes down about 10º from ambient. Your blasting tech will discuss with you the best practices based on your specific scenario.

Once a surface has been taking down to its original material the oxidation process hits a restart. After our process is complete, we advise storing the clean surface in a climate-controlled place away from water and other elements. We recommend applying a coat of primer on the new surface ASAP to eliminate flash rusting. By using a specially formulated rust inhibitor, you can prevent flash rust for up to 72 hours. Add the inhibitor to the blast water to prevent flash rust during blasting, and then use it as a rinse after blasting is complete.

The media that we use contains less than 1% of silica so it is chemically inert and completely environmentally friendly and safe for humans to use.

Media blasting is the quickest and easiest way to correct a failed coating. By taking the failed coating down to its original material surface you are allowing for a fresh/clean application of the new coating. Our process is also much more efficient than hand grinding and is much more cost-effective than chemical stripping methods. As the old saying goes, Time = Money!!! Our process also allows for a quick and easy clean-up.
